My Sleep Story
When I gave birth to my first child I was 30. This is relevant for context. I was 30, married, had a great career, I’d traveled the world, and by societies standards, I kinda had my life together. I knew what I wanted my life to look like. So, when I became pregnant, one of my main concerns was “how do we navigate bringing another person into this peaceful and type A existence?” And my friends and family did nothing to quell those fears.
“Congrats! You’ll never sleep again!”
“Say goodbye to that day napping you love so much!”
“Don’t put them in your bed. They’ll never leave.”
One thing this new mama was sure of… I was not ever going to be ok with leaving my baby to cry. So, I started doing my research on evidence based and holistic ways of getting babies to sleep. With my SonShine, it took some work, but we found sleep solutions that worked great for all of us while protecting our parenting style and protected my breastfeeding journey. My friends told me it was a fluke. “Yeah, well, you got lucky. Wait until you have that next one.” When my RainBeaux was born in 2021, we implemented the same strategies. I was anxious because now, we had to worry about how our newborn and 4 year old would sleep. Sure, the methods had to be tweaked to fit her, but once again, the entire family is getting rest. My friends dubbed my kids “Unicorn Sleepers”.
Except….. there’s nothing special about my kids. At least when it comes their sleep, that is. They don’t have a special sleep gene, I’m not just blessed. I simply holistically sleep coached them. Over 6 years, I shared the methods & techniques I utilized and coached many families, breastfeeding and non breastfeeding, in developing and meeting their sleep goals.
In 2023, I became a Holistic Sleep Coach through BabyEm. Helping families find a restful and functional balance in the antepartum and postpartum is my calling and passion. Let’s work together to find balance for you and your Unicorn Sleepers.
